Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, commonly referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment results in an increase in linearity of the stats of a particular.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components

Glyphs

The majority of upgrade components that are added to items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can transfer the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
If you wish to remove a glyph from an item then you'll need to save it using an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will destroy the item within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item using the glyph and its shards, so this should not be considered a loss.
The addition of a glyph to an item can cause it to become unstable, and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you remove the item. You can also add an inscription to your equipment to give it an extra benefit. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and be distributed slowly to the wearer instead of all at one time. This is helpful for players who suffer lots of damage from enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens permit players to alter the affixes they use on their equipment and weapons, and can be found in various ways such as in mistery boxes or as rare drops from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Reroll tokens give the player a new random affix, which is typically superior to the original. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.
Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the item upgrade menu, however they are still eligible to receive upgrades. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item as well as its level. Therefore, items that are higher level are more valuable for recycling than items with lower levels.

Leveling
